Evolve Risk Levels

Evolve has divided merchants into two risk categories: low and high risk.

Low-risk Merchants

Are those that complete the sale by providing the goods and services requested prior to or at the same time as the card transaction is authorized and processed and:

Have at least 70% card present sales, demonstrating that the card is present, and a signature has been obtained or
Use a Visa or Mastercard authentication service; and
Process less than or equal to $200,000 per month/$2,400,000 per year, and are not designated as a registered “high risk” merchant by the card brands.

High Risk Merchants

Are those that complete the sale by providing hard, soft goods or services and:

Have more than 20% of card not present sales, where the cardholder is not present to obtain signatures on sales receipts or invoices; or
Do not use a Visa or Mastercard authentication service; and
Process over $200,000 per month/$2,400,000 per year.

Include those that:

Generally, make sales without the card present (for example direct marketing, telephone/mail order, and Internet merchants); or
Requires full payment or process pre-authorized transactions in advance of the goods or services being delivered (for example, club membership and travel-related merchants).

Additional Risk Premium Pricing

Certain merchants and merchant types require additional pricing known as “Risk Premium BPS”. Additional Risk Premium BPS are req uired for each of the below merchant types. Please note that not all Risk Premium BPS merchant types are listed below. Additionally, not all merchant types listed below are applicable for acceptance unless otherwise approved by management. Bank reserves the right to place additional premiums on other merchants/merchant types, depending on risk and business model.
