Accepting Online & MOTO Payments

Not every transaction happens face-to-face. At Pepper Pay, we help you accept secure, reliable payments even when your customers aren’t standing in front of you — whether they’re placing an order on your website or calling in to pay by phone.

Here’s what you need to know about eCommerce and MOTO (Mail Order / Telephone Order) transactions.

eCommerce (Online Transactions)

eCommerce transactions happen when a customer pays through your website, a hosted checkout page, a payment link, or an online storefront.

How it works with Pepper Pay:

  • You can integrate Pepper Pay with your website using our secure payment gateway.
  • We support hosted checkout, API integrations, and eCommerce platforms (like WooCommerce, Shopify, and Magento).
  • All card types, digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), and recurring billing options are supported.

Key Benefits:

  • Accept payments 24/7
  • Reduce in-person handling
  • Easily track and reconcile online sales via your Pepper Pay dashboard

Security & Compliance:

  • All online transactions are protected by SSL encryption and tokenization
  • Optional 3D Secure 2.2 adds a layer of customer authentication to reduce fraud and chargebacks
  • Pepper Pay is PCI-compliant — and we’ll help you meet your requirements too

Want to accept payments online but don’t have a full website yet? Ask us about secure payment links or Pepper Pay-hosted checkout pages — no coding required.

MOTO (Mail Order / Telephone Order) Payments

MOTO payments are card-not-present transactions where you manually key in a customer’s card number over the phone, by email, or by mail order.

How it works with Pepper Pay:

  • Use your Virtual Terminal or Pepper Pay-hosted solution to enter card details securely
  • Transactions are encrypted and processed instantly
  • Ideal for service-based businesses, B2B orders, or back-office billing teams

When to Use MOTO:

  • Customers call in or email to place an order or pay an invoice
  • You don’t need a website, but still want to accept remote payments
  • You operate in a field service, medical, professional, or hospitality environment

Security Considerations:

  • MOTO transactions are considered a higher risk than in-person or online payments
  • We recommend enabling AVS (Address Verification) and CVV matching for additional fraud protection
  • All data is encrypted and processed through PCI-compliant platforms

Pepper Pay will guide you in setting appropriate fraud controls and chargeback protection strategies for your MOTO transactions.
